Reviews of Bear Mountain Ski Resort & Ski Area
“I went to this place 3 times, during the month of January and February. I did skiing and snowboarding, and it was one of the best time I had. I got the lessons and the instructor were really nice and gave me good tips on how to manage the skii and the snowboard. When I went it didn’t snow for a while, so the snow there was fake snow, but it still wasn’t bad. I was there for the fun. All the time I went they were a lot of people, I don’t complain because it’s a very famous place. The food would take a while but that’s understandable for the amount of people that were there. You see a bunch of people of different levels of skiing and snowboarding. During my time there I had stay on the green street. During this trip I actually came with other groups of people and it was very enjoyable.”
“Big Bear is the best and highest ski resort in Southern California. While not huge, it’s certainly large enough to keep you busy and entertained for days. There are plenty of beginner and intermediate areas, lots of park features, and a handful of advanced slopes – so there’s something for everyone. The snow quality is pretty dependent on recent (and infrequent) storms. They do their best with snowmaking, but don’t be surprised if some of the resort is off limits due to insufficient snow coverage. For this reason, Big Bear isn’t a world-class destination, but it gets major points for being so close to LA and the rest of southern California. There are two areas of the resort a couple miles away from each other. This area, Bear Mountain, skews more towards snowboarders and emphasizes terrain park features. It also feels more crowded than the other area, Snow Summit, since there are only a couple main lifts. You’ll still have a good time though! Get there early on major holidays and busy weekends, otherwise you’ll park in a far-off overflow lot and stand in a long line for a shuttle.”
“Insane first time snowboarding experience. A winter wonderland. If renting equipment, be prepared for a long queue line especially when visiting during snowy season. If you didn’t get to rent ahead of time, chances of getting equipment will be minimal”
